They say the money is in the list, in fact they only told you half the truth. The money is in the relationship with the list. You have battled hard to drive traffic to your site and got them to sign up to your subscription email, don't undo all the hard work now.
When you decide to have an opt-in list, it is not just a matter of sending your subscribers your promotional newsletters, catalogues or latest pearls of wisdom. You must offer real value and content that will be useful to them and help them succeed in whatever it is they are interested in. They signed up to your email broadcast because they believed you offered something of value to them, do not disappoint them.
You must treat each and every one of your subscribers as a treasured customer, even if they have not bought something from you yet, they may do in the future. One of the prime reasons for having an email list, from your perspective as the business owner is so that you can communicate regularly with prospects and be top of their thoughts when it is indeed time for them to purchase.
The following are three things you must do if you are to have a profitable mailing list
1) Always provide content along the lines of what the subscriber has signed up for, it may seem common sense but so many marketers will stray from what it is they are originally offering to the subscriber. By straying away from the content that the subscriber originally signed up for will only increase the amount of people opting out of your list.
2) Always provide an unsubscribe feature in your site and an unsubscribe link in your mails. When someone in your list files a request to be unsubscribed, always take that request seriously. Many of the leading email distribution services offer this automatically. If you fail to remove someone from your list and keep sending them your e-mails, you are now sending them spam mail. This could potentially land you in a lot of hot water with both the authorities and your internet service provider.
3) Make sure that all spelling and grammar is correct when sending a broadcast to your list. You are a professional business person and an authority on your subject in the eyes of your subscribers. Do not tarnish that image with poor spelling and grammar. Always use correct punctuation and never ever use slang language.
A mailing list is a vital component of any business both online and offline, ensure you appear professional and offer high amounts of value to your subscribers. You will then see subscribers turn into customers.
